September 15 through October 15 marks National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and honor the history, culture, and contributions of Americans whose ancestry can be traced to Spanish-speaking countries including Mexico and nations in the Latin American regions of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. As of July 1, 2022, the U.S. Census Bureau reported the Hispanic population of the United States reached 63.7 million, making it the nation’s largest racial or ethnic minority equating to 19.1% of the total population.

At Anywhere, our dynamic One Voz Employee Resource Group, consisting of 275 members, will be celebrating the contributions of this community through several events focused on the national theme: "Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America."

The State of Hispanic Homeownership

In 2022, the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) reported the Hispanic homeownership rate increased to 48.6 percent, marking eight years of consistent homeownership growth. These gains came despite challenges caused by affordability and increased interest rates. In 2022, Latinos added a net total of 349,000 homeowner households and formed 628,000 new households. These were the largest single-year gains for Latinos over the last ten years.

Supporting the Dream of Homeownership at Anywhere

Homeownership can be a gateway to building generational wealth for families, yet minority and underrepresented communities often face barriers to finding and purchasing homes. That’s why we’re committed to harnessing the power of real estate to help entrepreneurs, home buyers, and sellers build wealth through initiatives like our Inclusive Ownership Program and Empowering Latinas, hosted by CENTURY21®.  Learn more about our efforts in our 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility Report.

Get to know Alex

Equally as committed to expanding homeownership is Alex Vidal, president of ERA® Real Estate. We caught up with Alex to learn about his aspirations for the brand, and more.

Q: What have you learned so far in your role as president of ERA®?

Team ERA is the best kept secret in real estate.  In my 26 years in real estate, I have never seen a closer-knit group of broker-owners and REALTORS®.  They truly come from a place of abundance and want to help and see each other succeed!

Q: ERA is a global brand with 40,000+ agents across more than 30 countries. What strategies will you utilize to stay connected to this network?

Great question!  I will be using a two-pronged approach.  The first is to be in the field as much as my schedule allows. To this day, I don’t think any technology can replace that face to face, belly to belly, palm to palm connection.  With that said I am only one person, so I’ll be leveraging technology like Zoom to be in front of as many people as possible, as I have done in my career, and using that technology to highlight and feature our best people!

Q: Hispanic homeownership rates have experienced steady growth for the past eight years and NAHREP’s State of Hispanic Homeownership Report®️ states Latinos are more mortgage-ready than ever before. How is ERA positioned to support this growing demographic of homebuyers?

Our network is in a great position to best serve the Hispanic market.  Our broker-owners and agents have the tools and resources to best serve our Hispanic clientele and are ready to help our clients achieve the dream of home ownership.
